New Gallery programme for Swansea teens

Crash Events are a new group of young people aged between 14-19, who have been set up as part of the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery Young Person’s Offsite programme and in association with the Gallery’s Plus Tate Partnership.

The group are tasked with putting on events in Swansea for young people in their age group, and encouraging more young people to take part in arts events and activities through the gallery’s programme.

This summer, the energetic team of teens completed their first project – a ‘Battle of the Bands’ competition at the YMCA. In just over two weeks the group organised and staged the event and managed every part of the process including booking the bands, marketing, promotions, event management, technical support, filming editing, and evaluation.

All the bands that performed were from Swansea and under 20. There were performances by Crisps and Donuts, CLANWALDORF, Breaking Through, FastFuse and The Fallen Empire. They all rocked and the band promos for The Fallen Empire and Alterium can be seen on YouTube.

The group are now planning for their next event which will take place during the last week of October. Over the coming weeks they will also take part in and plan for a range of workshops, events and festivals. If you would like to be part of the group contact Tom on 01792 516900.

The Glynn Vivian Gallery’s Young People Programme aims to work with young people aged between 14 – 19 years old, engaging them in the gallery’s programme and the local community. Importantly, it also aims to empower and integrate them into the gallery’s activity by making them central to the evaluation of their own initiated projects as well as being involved in steering groups for Glynn Vivian’s future activity and evaluation.
