Meet Glynn Vivian’s Artist in Residence, Richard Higlett

This autumn we’ve launched a new ‘Artist in Residence’ programme at the YMCA on the Kingsway, to provide an exciting opportunity for people to see and speak to a working artist.

During October, artist Richard Higlett will be hosting series of events and workshops as he shares his practice with the community and discusses people’s perceptions of what it means to be an artist.

Today, Monday 8 October, 4-5pm, Richard will be talking about his past and present work and discussing the questions and ideas that concern him. Everyone welcome and there is no need to book.

You’ll also have another chance to join Richard on Wednesday 17 October, when he will be leading a workshop as part of his on-going Dirt Band Project, ‘Musical Differences’ for non-musicians.

Participants will symbolically form a band, write and perform one song for just an hour at a time. Can’t play an instrument? Can’t sing in tune? It doesn’t matter and either way the band plays on.

Participants will receive a CD of their band as the workshop builds up an album of chance chemistry. Workshops take place from 1.30pm so come form a band and have your 15 minutes of fame. Booking essential as places are limited. To book call 01792 516900.

At the end of his residency, Richard will finally be welcoming visitors and opening up his studio space to share the work he has created. The ‘Open Studio’ will take place on Friday 19 October, from 12-2pm and 5-7pm. Everyone welcome, just drop in.

Richard will also be keeping a diary of the work he makes during the residency, which you can find at http://www.richardhiglett.com/page11.htm

We look forward to seeing you!
