Do you have any Super 8 or cine-film hiding away in your attic? Have you any old family films gathering dust that you would like digitised? Then Glynn Vivian Artist in Residence, Maia Conran, needs your help.

Starting in February, artist Maia Conran will be based at the YMCA 3rd floor studio, as part of the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery’s offsite programme of activities.

Maia works with film and video and during her time in Swansea she will be creating a new piece of work using footage from local resident’s old home movies and archival footage. If you have old films that you would like to be transformed into a new artwork then the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery would like to hear from you.

You can donate your films by calling the Gallery on 01792 516900 or be emailing Learning Officer Tom Goddard on tom.goddard@swansea.gov.uk.

All films will be returned undamaged, with a basic digital version to view.

You can also come along to meet the artist in one of the open studio sessions on Saturday 8 and Friday 21 February at the YMCA from 1pm – 2pm.

If you would like to have a go at creating your own montaged films, Maia will be delivering a one-off workshop on Saturday 22 February, at the YMCA, where you can learn how to edit footage to create an original piece of work, and the final films will be digitised and available to view online.

The workshop is open to anyone aged 16+, morning and afternoon workshops available.

Booking essential, call 01792 516900.

At the end of her residency, join Maia at the YMCA on Thursday 13 March at 5.30pm for a discussion about her time in Swansea as the Gallery’s Artist in Residence.

All activities are free, everyone welcome.
