Guest blog from Friends of the Glynn Vivian chair, Andrew Green
When the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery reopens in the autumn, all Swansea will rejoice. To celebrate, and to help the Gallery make the most of its new opportunities, the Association of Friends of the Glynn Vivian have launched a special public fundraising campaign, the ‘Glynn Vivian 2016’ fund.
The money – it’s hoped to raise over £50,000 – will be donated to the Gallery to help extend its learning, conservation and publicity programmes.
As well as the fundraising campaign, the Friends are planning an Art Auction, which will take place for 2 weeks this summer. A number of local artists will be asked to donate works to be sold in order to raise money for the campaign.
The artwork will be displayed in an exhibition in the Grand Theatre, from 19 to 29 July and will also be available to view online. On 29 July a grand auction will be held in the Grand Theatre, with guest auctioneer and campaign supporter Kevin Johns at the helm. The works will be sold to the highest bidder and all proceeds will go towards the ‘Glynn Vivian 2016’ fund. Everyone is welcome and we hope you can join us for this enjoyable event.
If you’d like to make a donation to the fund – every contribution is very welcome, large or small – it’s easy to do and will only take a couple of minutes. Go to the Friends’ website and donate by bank transfer or through JustGiving. And remember to come to the Auction.
Help support art, artists and your community.
